Dolores, Hidalgo

Hot Springs

La Gruta, one of the hot springs out of town on the road to Dolores Hidalgo with a series of small pools, a cafe/restaurant and a man-made "cave" with a water outlet that will give you a massage. Carretera San Miguel de Allende a Dolores Hidalgo Km. 10, San Miguel de Allende

El  Escondido, with some enclosed pools with light shining in either from holes in the ceiling or through glass and has several outdoor hot springs with pools of different temperatures.  Very clean changing rooms, a great place for a relaxing morning or afternoon. Hotel Hacienda la Taboada, is a Hotel/hot springs with a lap pool and several amenities. located at Hidalgo Km. 8, San Miguel de Allende 37700, Mexico.

Mayan Baths.  By appointment only, open for groups of minimum 12,  but an incredible candle lit experienced, unforgettable. There they serve drinks and offer cheeses etc. - towels supplied, massage possible, enjoy !

Historical Towns

Atotonilco the city where 17th century murals have been partially restored by UNESCO. The shrine played a major role in Mexico' struggle for independence. 

Dolores Hidalgo, only 40km or so from San Miguel and an easy day trip. whose parish priest, Miguel Hidalgo, uttered the 'grito de independencia' (cry of independence) from the steps of the main church in 1810.

Mineral los Pozos, an old mining/ghost town has now a number of pleasant galleries, restaurants and a couple of small hotels. The mines themselves are just outside town and very extensive, with many ruined buildings to explore.

Querétaro is a large industrial and commercial city, some 60km from San Miguel, but has a very attractive historic centre. It makes another easy day out. 

Guanajuato, there is so much to see and enjoy. The World Heritage state capital is particularly attractive when illuminated at night so overnighting is also recommended.  Walk the callejones, take some time to explore its' fine cuisine and enjoy many buildings still standing from a historic era. Valenciana Church and mine overlooking the city of Guanajuato, drive through the tunnels and up to the look-out point known as Pípila.
